So, do you want to try bachata?

Never danced? Good. The beginner course is built for people starting from nothing, and everybody in the room on the first night is in the same position. If you have danced before, it is still a decent place to tidy up your basics.

You will learn the basic step, the first turns, and a handful of the moves you will actually see people using at a social. Not a routine to perform. The point is that you can lead or follow with somebody you have never met and get through the song.

Bachata comes from the Dominican Republic. It is danced with a partner and it is danced socially, so it is a way to spend an evening with people.

Who teaches

Logan and Irina

Logan started Hoog. He has been dancing for five years and, in his own words, spent the first months of it dancing like a stick. He has taught in Tartu for two years now, and he still remembers exactly which parts were hard, which is most of the reason he is good at teaching them.

Irina teaches alongside him. She has been dancing for three years and spends a lot of weekends at festivals, dancing with people of every level from all over. That is where you learn the social side of bachata rather than the routine side.

A lot of people arrive certain they have no rhythm. That is the ordinary starting point here, not the exception, and an hour is usually enough to prove it wrong.

The first class

What the first class is actually like

🪩 Start with the basics

(call it your dance starter pack)

We take you through the core bachata steps, with no stress and no pressure. It is all about getting comfortable with the rhythm and stepping on the beat without second-guessing yourself.

👯 Meet good people

(and maybe your future dance buddy)

Everybody is here for the same reason, to try something new and enjoy it. Come on your own or bring a friend. Either way you leave knowing names and faces, and possibly with a plan for food afterwards.

💪 Level up your confidence without noticing

There is something about learning a skill that looks this good. Dancing has you standing taller and smiling more, and one day you realise that talking to strangers stopped being frightening.

😮‍💨 Reset your head midweek

Dancing is free therapy with a soundtrack. It clears your head, lifts your mood, and gives you that “I did something good today” feeling. Far better than another evening of scrolling.

An evening a week you did not have before.
